Kitchen Remodel in Lake Highlands

Lake Highlands took shape as a community in the 60's and 70's. While this type of home design tended to be heavy and very ranch styled, these houses are ripe for remodeling. They have a good amount of space, it just needs to be optimized for how people live today. Our current remodel on Lakemere is no exception. The old kitchen had the original built in solid wood basic doors and drawers. There were no rails to help the drawers move and they frequently ended up in the floor. The fir downs made the space look smaller and the cabinets were not well optimized for space. The kitchen opened to the diningroom, but just barely. The countertops were Formica and the backsplash was a painted tile. We even pulled up some of the hardwood floor to discover 2 layers of vinyl.

The new kitchen is truely a gem. We are installing stained shaker style cabinets, Brazilian Black Granite, stainless appliances, can lights and a very open attractive bar area with a full view of the kitchen from the livingroom. It will be a much warmer, inviting space. The client also had us install new double atrium style doors, and a full size stackable laundry center.

Initial prep work to demo out old kitchen. Note in the back there is a wall where the washer sat on one side and the dryer sat on the other side.
Completed Kitchen with Granite Countertops, undermount stainless steel sink, goose neck fixture and dark stained maple cabinets. The back wall is now gone and has given the client several more feet of countertop space. The walls were faux finished to give them depth and warm up the place.
The kitchen with peninsula is being updated with an open area above the slide in stove.
The client wanted to dramatically open up the kitchen peninsula to create an open space from the kitchen to the den. We also faux finished the peninsula a different color to off set it from the rest of the kitchen.
The dining room area is going to have th cabinets removed and updated
The new space is much more inviting and modern looking.
The original breakfast area was dull, dated and tired looking, like most of the houses in Lake Highlands. The bar area was used as nothing more than a storage area. It now is a centerpiece for the eating area with storage, a wine fridge and wine rack.
Undermount sink and granite detail We designed cabinets around the fridge to give it a built in look.
If you are looking to save on countertop space then a microwave drawer is a great option In the past laundry rooms had to take up 5 feet. With the new stackables we can incorporate them easily into the kitchen area and put cabinet door fronts on them to give it a finished look as we have done here.
