Lake Highlands took shape as a community in the 60's and 70's. While this type of home design tended to be heavy and very ranch styled, these houses are ripe for remodeling. They have a good amount of space, it just needs to be optimized for how people live today. Our current remodel on Lakemere is no exception. The old kitchen had the original built in solid wood basic doors and drawers. There were no rails to help the drawers move and they frequently ended up in the floor. The fir downs made the space look smaller and the cabinets were not well optimized for space. The kitchen opened to the diningroom, but just barely. The countertops were Formica and the backsplash was a painted tile. We even pulled up some of the hardwood floor to discover 2 layers of vinyl.
The new kitchen is truely a gem. We are installing stained shaker style cabinets, Brazilian Black Granite, stainless appliances, can lights and a very open attractive bar area with a full view of the kitchen from the livingroom. It will be a much warmer, inviting space. The client also had us install new double atrium style doors, and a full size stackable laundry center.
